Shoes to run away from

Here's some non-sense we were up to, before all the depression started, when my cat died, Rene got sick with angina, and I got denied another really cool. I put a lot of time into applying for the job, and they'd given the job away before the application period even ended. Maybe the ugly pics I took was an omen for all the upcoming bad luck...

We went on a quest to find running shoes fro Rene. They're ALL ugly as hell. Seriously, what is wrong with people who design these? Or folks who wear them??!

Here are some pics of how pretty it was outside first, though.

UGLY SHOES!

I am never setting foot in a sport shop again, that's how uninspiring the stuff there is. Seriously, is there a person out there who would wear these with pride? Definitely you wouldn't say they're pretty, or flattering, or fashionable, or anything more positive than "OK for running". Sure, the neon yellow makes me feel so sporty I'm sweatting already!

And can't they hide the ugly bouncy bits with a normal looking heel? WOW that's so high tech, I feel like I'm in the air...

Seriously UGLY! They're everywhere!

YUCK YUCK YUCK YUCK YUCK

OK, Rene seems to have found something normal and shoe-looking...

But they still weren't good enough... It gets worse! What is UP with these high tech looking bouncy robot-shoes? I'm sure they're very good for running, but do they NEED to be made of grey plastic? Yucky Yuckersons!

And may I present my favorites: the gradient grey Nike's with so many energetic skidmarks to make you look faster, and red Lego Duplo-style-heels! These are so ugly it hurts!

EEEEOW! Somebody explain please. Is it so, that the uglier they are, the faster you run, so you can take 'em off?

I feel obliged to comment this post as some of these beautiful shoes pay my salary. I cannot comment on the colours, but can comment on the materials, logos etc. And here comes the lecture:

The outer sole is a combination of different kinds of rubber (eg. synthetic and natural) and it's usually treated to not leave skidmarks on the floor when worn indoors.

The inner sole is usually made of EVA or PU foam. Different shades of for example gray in the sole indicate the thickness of the material used. This is the most important part of the shoe as it directs the step and supports the feet. Every brand has a different kind of system to reduce the impact when the foot hits the ground. There are for example air pillows and gel pockets with silicon in them.

The top of the shoe is from synthetic materials. Most of the shoes are from mesh nylon to improve the flow of air. The logos and "skidmarks" on the sides of the shoe are there to support the foot further. They usually go around the shoe and tie to the laces. The lacing system is also designed for extra support.

The technical part is there to support the foot, not to look pretty. But you can complain about the colours to the manufacturers!

And I don't think that anyone besides Americans wear running shoes outside the running trails :D

P.S. my current running shoes are white/turquoise/silver. Yak!

awsome, girl! I was waiting for something like that from you Mrs Sports Illustrated. :D But yeah, still the colours are the main thing that make the shoe ugggggleeee! and how the hell do the logos and skidmarks support the foot? well can't they be cool patterns like in trainers instead of some extremely technical and hard geometric patterns? can't form be function?

I must admit to owning a pair of these....i love wearing them and it really gives my run a little "bounce" ! Please note, however, that these are taken off immediately after the running session is over! They are all about functionality. I bought mine for about $50 CDN at outlet shop.

Lena: The idea of you bouncing just made me forget all the uglyness of these shoes. :)
