Bad idea

...was to dye my hair dark again. I hardly ever regret stuff, but this I could've left undone. I wanted to have some change, and this is what I was going for:

BUT I ended up with something I don't really wanna photograph. It's alot darker and has shades of greenish grey and dark blue. It looks like a forest in November. It's beyond my understanding. It's something I wanna tie back and cover with a wig.

So I think next up I'm gonna try something like this. "Dream on" I hear you say.

I haven't learned from my mistake, I'm still gonna try again by myself. I bought a new package, and the lady in the shop asked me sadly "Why did you do it?" Most likely it'll be even worse, and you'll never see a picture of me again. I'm gonna shave my head. I'm gonna have an army-style stubble by the time of our wedding in July.

I'm gonna take this moment to wallow, and reminisce my beautiful blonde hair. And tell you some of the other lucky things that have happened lately! Bad things happen to bad people.

These pics are of Sam and me from last week, when we were invited to a Bread & Butter party. It took us like 2 hours to get all dolled up, and found out that Solar bar was closing in like 20 minutes when we got there. What place closes at 1 am in Berlin? So, we took our red lips and high heels elsewhere, went to Alex for some coctails and took loads of pictures of our overly dressed Thursday night. P1080142.jpg picture by avaramaiju

Shopping and chilling in Töölö

An inspirational tour in my old hood Töölö... It's good to start by chilling, then go shopping a bit, and maybe chill in between. Töölö, dispite its quirky name, is a beautiful and elegant part of the city with cosy little cafés and old ladies in bakeries. Nowadays alot of young people live in the northern part aswell, and more and more small designer shops are opened in the area.

But what makes me wonder, is how many small old shops with the kind of grandma-clothes you really don't see anybody wearing in Töölö are still standing. You also never see people going in to or out of them. It's a mystery, but they just exist. Check out the photos in the end...

Café Regatta is a tiny cute bohemian coffee shop by the sea with genuine fresh cinnamon rolls. Also if you forget to bring money, it's OK. Once I went there with my ex-boyfriend. We didn't have cash, and they don't accept cards, so they just said we can pay later. They said they'd bring the cinnamon rolls to the table, since they were still in the oven. 10 minutes later I went to ask for them, and the girl realized they were already sold out. "Oops, do you want your money back?" Haha, she'd already forgotten we hadn't even paid. Dispite the hassle, I love them. :)

The headless Iida and Jenna having fresh buns by the sea.

Indian Taj serves the best pizzas in Helsinki (it makes sense, Indians are famous for that, right?). The offer of the day for the last 4 years has been a Pizza with 3 fillings of your choice. The price has gone up, due to hard times, to 7,90 but it's so big you can easily share it with a friend.

Shopping in Töölöntori

Bling Life in Töölöntori (Töölö square) is a shop with accessories from recycled materials from e.g. Brazil. I especially loved the purses made of tin cans. Also the small Parfumerie Biget next door is so nostalgic! We went there with Minna, my old classmate from fashion class, who loves vintage stuff and old karaoke bars.

Parfumerie Biget.

Minsku having a coffee in the Töölö square.

Vintage books and more on Runeberginkatu just next to the square.

Must haves: A tiny armour for a kid (?!) and a sign that says 'Hippies use backdoor'.

The little shops of horror

Here are some examples of what I was talking about earlier, the curious small boutiques, that you never see anyone step into, yet they keep on existing. They're not only in Töölö though, some of the pics are from Vallila and Punavuori.

"Hannelii" on Mannerheimintie.

Nice undies.

"Salonie" on Topeliuksenkatu.

"Sabrina" is a bit fancier for the ladies of Fredrikinkatu.

The sale continues! Hurry!

I love the shirt that says "Surprise In to party SO MAYBE good lucky". What!?

Finnish Summerfashion 2009

Well, as you may have heard, Finland is not best known for fashion. I decided to question it though, cos’ doesn’t fashion after all mean something popular and common that the crowd adapts, even if it’s not approved of by the Parisians? At least it seems that any piece of clothing can have the tag ‘fashionable’ if it just looks a bit flashy. I like to allow myself, as a fashion designer graduate, to make fancy claims about fashion. (That’s the only benefit I ever gained from that education! :D)

This shop in Maarianhamina had a very conscious name. I had to check it out in order to get to the bottom of fashion and style.

So here’s what it is.

Finland IS though, the promised land of the Crocs-shoes, the comfy and colourful rubber-lumps that seriously just look...well, bad. (If you dispite this overruling argument believe to have heard of a person who thinks they do look good, I would like to hear from it.) Us Finns, we like to combine form and function, and I guess that explains something. I mean they are functional, and they sure have a particular form, don’t they? (Nobody said it needs to be aesthetic.)

PS. I own a pair of fake-Crocs that I paid 17 euros for in the parking lot of the K-Market in Vääksy. That’s maybe the stupidest thing I’d ever expect anyone to do. The guy was one hell of a sales wizard, beats even the shop keepers in Dressmann. But I look forward to wearing my red rubberflops again at the summer house, they’re perfect for this thing we call “kusiluikkarit”, they’re usually old worn-out shoes you wear to go for a wee in the outhouse. Well, I have friggin flashy shoes for that use!

This mama even wears Crocs with her sexy red dress.

Luckily there are some individuals in the mass. I like the matching earring-belt-tee-combo. I’ll try to put her into Vice magazines “Do´s”.

Check out also the Speedos in the background.

Top 5 jobs I could never do

1. Pedicurist. I love going to one, but I honestly couldn't work as one, it's just plain gross. Every time I go, she tells me such horror stories of guys who have been walking for weeks with a bottle cap carved into their sole, or this one guy, who had to have his whole leg amputated, because he'd just let his "cut" get a little too deep. I give a big up to pedicurists, who can actually take a foot at its worst in their hand, look at it closely and touch it every day, and call that their career.

2. Border Control. Deciding which asylum seeker has to go back to their miserable life running for their life is maybe the most horrible situation I could imagine. I'd just let everyone through, and we all know what hell that would raise.

3. Yellow Press. Making a living out of making up superficial shit of people who no-one really should care about, and destroying their reputations, seems maybe like the biggest waste of breath I can think of.

4. Shop girl at Fragrance Department. The smell makes me dizzy.

5. News reporter. I can't keep a straight face, I can't help laughing at peoples mistakes, and I humiliate myself on a regular basis, so you can imagine what a mess that would be. Just check out this video.

Now how 'bout you? All angry pedicurists, please post your top fives!

The ways we waste our time

In my previous job I had the responsible task of following the company emails and usually the biggest part of that was emptying the Spam. And just in case there was some important new message lost there in the useless pool of those samples of human intelligence, I couldn't just delete them, i had to go through all the subjects. Now that's something that got me all worked up. That has to be the most useless waste of time a person could spend. Well, apart from the time people use to create such crap for a living. Or maybe it really is worth it, I mean, do people actually read that shit, to keep the spammers going? One of the finest pieces I came across was the announcement of a chance to get your money back from something that was totally free of charge in the first place (highlighted in the image below).
At this point I should make a confession. I was lately fooled to take part in a lame IQ-game online which only showed me how retarded I am. There was an ad in Facebook that kept telling me my friends IQs and I got provoked to take the quiz myself. First it had some really simple questions that made me feel secure about my intelligence. Of course there was also a clock showing me to hurry up with my answers. Then they asked me to see if I can type my phone number in 10 seconds... AND I DID! Brilliant. I regretted it immediately when I started getting SMSs from advertisers and clearly the only thing that test showed me was that it only takes simple things to fool a tool like me.

Another chapter is chain letters. I don't think I need to say more to believe you already get my frustration. (Unless you're under 13 or one of those sad people who create them.) I came across my favorite today in Youtube in the video commertaries. I thought it was a quite innovative and modern way to publish the letter but it still cuts to the point like the most traditional chain letter ever:

Take this Advice:
1. put your finger on your nose
2. hold your breath for 5 seconds
3. say the name of your love
4. that person will ask you out on the next Friday
5. you will have the best day tomorrow
6. if you don't copy and paste to 2 other videos you will have bad luck and die in 2 days
